California Community Colleges 2015 State of the System

California Community Colleges Chancellor Dr. Brice W. Harris gives the 2015 State of the System address, his final such address as chancellor. He discusses the current system priorities, the system’s improved focus on helping veterans and celebrates the 30-year anniversary of the BOG Fee Waiver program.

Tamika Narvaez-Payne

Her ambition, positive attitude and ability to keep going, no matter what challenges stood in her way, are truly something to admire.



 Omar Rodriguez

A student at Irvine Valley College, Omar shares his story of overcoming a learning disability and a teacher who steered him away from pursing a higher education. He explains how he found emotional and educational support from people across campus, helping him believe in himself again and finding a new passion in communications.



Gary Walker-Roberts

A Los Medanos College alum, Gary shares his path to self-discovery and a higher education after jumping straight into the workforce directly out of high school and finding roadblocks when trying to find better-paying jobs. He talks about getting a top-notch education, while finding new passions for government, civics and helping veterans.



Angeela Riaz

Angeela, a student at Cosumnes River College, shares the challenges she had to overcome to finally pursue higher education. After having to wait years to enroll, she talks about the number of things that happily surprised her once on campus, and the big reason she won’t stop learning.



Corrie Beall

A Sierra College alum, Corrie shares her experience of enrolling at a California community college after attaining a bachelor’s degree and realizing her office job didn’t quite fit. She explains why her new job is more than just a career, and why she calls her Sierra College education, “priceless.”
