Incoming Chancellor Eloy Ortiz Oakley on Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals

Released: 11/30/2016

"Today, the California Community Colleges along with the University of California and California State University formally requested that President-elect Donald Trump continue the program called Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or DACA.

DACA allows thousands of our students who were brought to this country as children by undocumented parents to continue their studies and contribute to our communities.

It’s rooted in the fundamental premise that no one should be punished for the actions of others.

There will be time for a vigorous debate about immigration policy in the days ahead, and we look forward to engaging in healthy dialogue with the incoming administration.

For now, however, we are imploring President-elect Trump to preserve DACA and not to up end the lives of these Dreamers.

All three of our systems of public higher education are deeply committed to keeping our colleges and universities safe and welcoming places for ALL students to learn."
