Gavilan College was established in 1919 in the city of Gilroy, and eventually became part of the Gavilan Joint Community College District. The district is comprised of 2,700 square miles encompassing southern Santa Clara and most of San Benito County. In the spring of 1997, instructional sites were added in Hollister and Morgan Hill.
Gavilan College offers a wide range of services, including programs of community education, study in the liberal arts and sciences, and study in the pre-professional, business, vocational and technical fields. Courses and programs of study are offered days, evenings, weekends and online.
Gavilan is the only community college in Northern California offering degree and certificate programs in Aviation Maintenance Technology.
With the passage of the Measure E facilities bond, the college is prepared to upgrade the existing campus, and prepare for the students of the future with permanent locations in Coyote Valley and San Benito County. The next few years will see improvements in institutional and classroom technology, expanded online services and improvements in safety, accessibility and lighting.
