Cabrillo College, established in 1959, is named after the explorer Juan Cabrillo, with its main campus in Aptos overlooking the Monterey Bay. Cabrillo was a Portuguese ship pilot who, in 1542, led the first European expedition to explore the uncharted coast of California.
Over the years, the college has become known as an institution that seeks to fill the educational needs of every segment of the community. The college offers associate degrees and certificates in more than 70 fields of study such as engineering, computer science, allied health (nursing, radiologic technology, dental hygiene, medical assistant), public safety, marine biology and the visual and performing arts, and has reached record enrollment of more than 17,000 students.
Classes are offered at several locations including the main campus in Aptos, the Cabrillo College Watsonville Center in downtown Watsonville, the Cabrillo College Scotts Valley Center and at several places in downtown Santa Cruz and the San Lorenzo Valley.
