Cañada College, established in 1968, is part of the three-school San Mateo County Community College District. The college is on 131 acres in the western part of Redwood City. The primary service area for the college is the southern portion of San Mateo County, Redwood City, East Palo Alto, Menlo Park, San Carlos, Atherton, Portola Valley, La Honda, Woodside, Half Moon Bay and Pescadero.
In 2001, the college became one of the first community colleges in California to partner with four-year universities to offer bachelor degrees on-site in nursing, business administration, liberal studies and child and adolescent development, in addition to teaching credentials for elementary and secondary schools. The college also offers an accelerated master's degree in business administration.
The college is one of the smallest community colleges in the Bay Area with approximately 7,287 students enrolling each year, enabling it to meet its mission of ensuring that students from diverse backgrounds achieve their educational goals by providing quality instruction in transfer and general education classes, professional and technical programs, and basic skills.
