Folsom Lake College was established in 2004 as the fourth campus of the Los Rios Community College District — one of the largest community college districts in California, serving approximately 85,000 students. Students in the Sacramento and El Dorado counties can enroll in classes at the main Folsom campus, two centers (the El Dorado Center in Placerville and the Rancho Cordova Center) and various off-site locations.

Three Stages at Folsom Lake College, a $50 million regional performing arts center, has opened. The center will enhance the visual and performing arts curriculum and attract audiences, artists, and community and business organizations to attend performances. The center includes an 800-seat theater, a 200-seat side room and a recital room.

Students can choose from approximately 1,000 course sections at Folsom Lake College, more than 30 associate of arts or associate of science degree options, as well as more than 30 certificate alternatives.
