Lassen Community College, established in 1925, is in Susanville and is part of the Lassen Community College District. The district serves the Honey Lake Valley communities of Susanville, Janesville and Herlong, and outreach areas including Alturas, Big Valley and Westwood.
The current campus opened in 1972 and consists of 184 acres, 17 main buildings, four mobile buildings and 17 outbuildings. In addition to classrooms, laboratories and offices, it has a dormitory with a 130-student capacity, a library, cafeteria, computer rooms, a large gymnasium, stables, barn, a rodeo arena and outdoor recreation facilities including a ski hill.
Although the college serves one of the larger geographic areas of the state, the population is relatively small.
