Green Technology at Butte College

The vision of this Oroville campus is a simple one: to become the best community college in California. While other colleges in the 112-campus system may argue who is the best, Butte College is definitely the greenest.

Butte College expects to be completely off the electrical grid in May and providing its own power. That will make Butte College the first college in the nation to accomplish that feat. The college also plans to be carbon neutral by 2015. There are plenty of opportunities for practical experience for students, whether it’s degree-based learning, or to retrain to gain a certificate in green tech fields.

“We are always trying to be inclusive and close the loop in our educational programs” said Butte College’s Sustainability Coordinator Jon Stallman. “Our students develop technical skills for certification, then partner with industry for real-world exams and then close the loop with practical experience. Our students leave with a high-quality, tangible base of experience that makes them competitive in the marketplace.”
