California Community Colleges Acting Chancellor Erik E. Skinner’s Statement on

Gov. Brown’s Revised Budget Plan

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – California Community Colleges Acting Chancellor Erik E. Skinner issued the following statement on Gov. Jerry Brown’s revised state budget plan, which was released today:
“The governor’s revised budget plan will enable community colleges to serve an additional 50,000 students statewide and move forward with the Board of Governors plan to improve the delivery of workforce training throughout our system. This budget demonstrates Gov. Brown’s continued commitment to public higher education and builds on critical efforts already under way to improve basic skills education, help close achievement gaps and expand the use of technology to help more students succeed.”

The California Community Colleges is the largest system of higher education in the nation composed of 72 districts and 113 colleges serving 2.1 million students per year. Community colleges supply workforce training, basic skills education and prepare students for transfer to four-year institutions. The Chancellor’s Office provides leadership, advocacy and support under the direction of the Board of Governors of the California Community Colleges.
