SACRAMENTO, Calif. – California Community Colleges Acting Chancellor Erik E. Skinner issued the following statement on Gov. Jerry Brown’s reappointment of Danny Hawkins to the California Community Colleges Board of Governors:
“Danny Hawkins is a tremendous asset to our Board of Governors and I’m pleased Gov. Brown continues to acknowledge his experience and expertise,” said Skinner. “Hawkins’ dedication to our system is paramount as our board continues to help more students achieve their higher education goals.”
Gov. Brown announced the reappointment on Wednesday. Hawkins, 52, has served on the California Community Colleges Board of Governors since 2011. Hawkins has been a senior systems administrator for the San Jose Evergreen Community College District since 1997, and was systems manager in the office of undergraduate admission at Santa Clara University from 1988 to 1997. Hawkins has been a member of the California School Employees Association since 1997.
The California Community Colleges is the largest system of higher education in the nation composed of 72 districts and 113 colleges serving 2.1 million students per year. Community colleges supply workforce training, basic skills education and prepare students for transfer to four-year institutions.
