California Community Colleges Interim Chancellor Erik E. Skinner’s Statement on Member

Reappointment to Board of Governors

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – California Community Colleges Interim Chancellor Erik E. Skinner issued the following statement on Gov. Jerry Brown’s reappointment of Dr. Joseph J. Bielanski, Jr. to the California Community Colleges Board of Governors:
“Dr. Joseph Bielanski brings a tremendous amount of knowledge, experience and expertise to our Board of Governors and I’m pleased Gov. Brown continues to recognize his key role and many contributions to the California Community Colleges,” said Skinner. “Dr. Bielanski’s insight about our system is invaluable as the board continues to craft policies dedicated to improving educational access, opportunities and success for our
2.1 million students.”
Gov. Brown announced the reappointment on Wednesday. Dr. Bielanski is an articulation officer at Berkeley City College and a past president of the Peralta Community College District Academic Senate. In his role as a past president of the District Academic Senate, Dr. Bielanski assists with district institutional effectiveness projects, including facilitating the updating of district board policies and administrative procedures. He has served and continues to serve on various college and district committees, including the college curriculum committee and the district Planning and Budgeting Council. Dr. Bielanski also serves on committees for the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges. He has worked in the Peralta Community College district for more than 25 years and received his doctorate in education from St. Mary’s College of California.

The California Community Colleges is the largest system of higher education in the nation composed of 72 districts and 113 colleges serving 2.1 million students per year. Community colleges supply workforce training, basic skills education and prepare students for transfer to four-year institutions.
