California Community Colleges Chancellor Brice W. Harris Issues Statement on Higher Education Bill

Under Consideration in Legislature

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – California Community Colleges Chancellor Brice W. Harris today issued the following statement on SB 15, a bill affecting public higher education in the state authored by state Sen. Marty Block (D-San Diego) currently under consideration in the Legislature:

“We welcome Senate President Pro Tem Kevin de León’s and Sen. Marty Block’s plan to address critical issues facing public higher education at all levels. Improving access and affordability while enhancing student success are vital to our state’s future. We look forward to working with the Legislature and governor in crafting legislation and a budget that support these goals.”

The California Community Colleges is the largest system of higher education in the nation composed of 72 districts and 112 colleges serving 2.1 million students per year. Community colleges supply workforce training, basic skills education and prepare students for transfer to four-year institutions. The Chancellor’s Office provides leadership, advocacy and support under the direction of the Board of Governors of the California Community Colleges.
