California Community Colleges Chancellor Eloy Ortiz Oakley’s Statement on Member Appointment to Board of Governors

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – California Community Colleges Chancellor Eloy Ortiz Oakley issued the following statement on Gov. Jerry Brown’s appointment of Hildegarde “Hildy” Aguinaldo to the California Community Colleges Board of Governors:

“Ms. Aguinaldo brings a great deal of experience, knowledge and expertise to the Board of Governors, and her unique perspective will be a tremendous asset as we work to meet the goals and commitments laid out in the Vision for Success,” said Oakley. “She has an established history in government relations and civic engagement that will serve our system well as we seek to improve student outcomes and close equity gaps.”

Gov. Brown announced the appointment on Wednesday. Aguinaldo, 35, of Los Angeles, has been associate general counsel at United Healthcare since 2017. She was general counsel at the Santa Maria Group from 2016 to 2017 and an associate and clerk at Lewis Brisbois Bisgaard and Smith LLP from 2008 to 2016. Aguinaldo served as deputy of health and legal affairs in the Office of Los Angeles City Council member Richard Alarcon from 2007 to 2008. She is a member of the Los Angeles County Hospitals and Health Care Delivery Commission and was a member of the Northridge Hospital Medical Center Community Board from 2008 to 2014. Aguinaldo earned a Juris Doctor degree from Southwestern Law School and a Master of Public Health degree in health services organization from the University of California, Los Angeles.

The California Community Colleges is the largest system of higher education in the nation composed of 72 districts and 114 colleges serving 2.1 million students per year. Community colleges supply workforce training, basic skills education in English and math, and prepare students for transfer to four-year institutions.
