California Community Colleges Chancellor Eloy Ortiz Oakley’s Statement on President Donald Trump’s Budget Proposal

SACRAMENTO, Calif. California Community Colleges Chancellor Eloy Ortiz Oakley issued the following statement on President Donald Trump’s proposed federal budget, which was released today:

”Congress needs to carefully consider the impact these cuts would have on our students and on our economy. The budget proposal is a retreat from policies and programs that make community colleges more affordable for students and would also diminish the ability of our colleges to educate and train workers for the jobs of today and tomorrow. We will join with our congressional delegation and partners in education to work for a budget that helps more students to earn college credentials and improve their lives and their communities.”

The California Community Colleges is the largest system of higher education in the nation composed of 72 districts and 113 colleges serving 2.1 million students per year. Community colleges supply workforce training, basic skills education in English and math, and prepare students for transfer to four-year institutions. The Chancellor’s Office provides leadership, advocacy and support under the direction of the Board of Governors of the California Community Colleges.
